User research
As the research was being conducted, it was noticed that we had a larger group of users that wanted to remain loyal to The Floralist and keep buying from them, but they did not have the time to go to the store.
The researched not only showed that they would be more than happy to be able to buy from the App at any time, from any place, but were excited about the possibilities of acquiring points as members of the Club, which would in turn also reinforce their loyalty.
Pain points
User journey map
Paper wireframes
While drafting on paper the first ideas for the main page of the App, the main focus was to try and make it easy to read and use, with one click  options ready to minimize the time spent on the app. We also thought that suggestions would be appreciated by old time users and customers as well as quick access to their profiles.
Digital wireframes
As the design kept being tweaked with, I tried to incorporate the things that would help the user have a smooth experience as well as help them while on the app.
Easy access to the App’s features and quick check out will be easier for those users that don’t have time to be writing their information every time as they can choose to log in with any of their social networks and also save their credit card information.
First low-fi prototype
The focus was mainly on quick login of a user and then the purchase of a plant. On this instance it was possible to move onto a usability study with real users to see how they performed with this set up.

Usability study findings
The users that participated kept providing insights on very important points so we kept working on the App as we learned more.
Taking in account the insights collected, it was possible to achieve a more refined mock up of the App and keep improving as we tested it.
Refining the design
Main mockups
The design of the mockups went through two redesigns, here is the first one and bellow you can see the final result after more usability studies were conducted.
In the beginning the idea was to present the user with as many options to make their experience shorter, but the usability study showed that a lot of users got more confused, so in the end the best option was to shorten the options offered even if that made the user journey a little longer.
In another usability study, users were happy with the customization of the plants, but still wanted to be able to order gifts for others, so the option to turn the order into a wrapped gift was added before deciding on Delivery or Pick up.
Final mockups and hi-fi prototype

This final instance is easier to navigate, does not force users to log in and gives the option to save or not the card info regardless of them signing in or not.

GOING FORWARD
TAKEAWAYS
IMPACT
The App make users feel like The Floralist really thinks about their users and wants to indulge in their wants and needs as much as possible.
Quote from a Usability Study user:
“I would definitely use the app to get some new plants and of course send some gifts!”
WHAT I LEARNED
It’s definitely important to try and keep our biases on a side and include as a big of a sample into the research and studies, it really helps bring the App as close as possible to what the users really want and not just what we think they want. Especially if we take into account the older generations and the NBUs.
Thank you for taking your time reviewing my App design for The Floralist, I hope you enjoyed it!
